MarkItDown is Microsoft’s open-source Python/CLI toolkit for turning many file types into Markdown for LLM and docs workflows. The project lives on GitHub at microsoft/markitdown; Microsoft does not ship an official web converter.

Does MarkAny use or host the MarkItDown engine?+

No. MarkAny does not run, host, or ship the MarkItDown engine. Some third-party sites claim a hosted MarkItDown service—MarkAny does not make that claim. This page is MarkAny’s independent online files→Markdown converter for the same job.

When should I use MarkItDown CLI vs MarkAny?+

Can I convert multiple files at once?+

Yes. Add up to five files of the selected type, with a 50 MB limit per file and a 250 MB total selection limit. MarkAny processes up to two at once and lets you cancel or retry individual items.

What happens to files I upload?+

File-to-Markdown conversion uses MarkAny’s cloud storage and conversion infrastructure. The current service does not publish a guaranteed deletion timeframe, so do not upload confidential, sensitive, or regulated material.
